About Emma
Emma Pass is the award-winning author of dark, gritty fiction for young adults. Her debut novel, ACID, won the North East Teenage Book Award and was picked by YALSA as a Top Ten Amazing Audiobook for 2015. Both ACID and her second novel, The Fearless, were nominated for the Carnegie Medal. The Fearless won the Concorde Book Award in 2016. Her novels have been published in the UK, US and Spain.
She has also published a short e-guide to characterisation with TLC Press, which is available to download from The Literary Consultancy’s website, and has had an article in Mslexia magazine.
When she’s not writing, Emma works as a reader for The Literary Consultancy, runs workshops for all ages, and offers mentoring and editing services for writers. She’s been a Patron of Reading and a writer-in-residence for First Story, and is the co-founder of the UKYA and Children’s Extravaganzas.
In 2020 she will be working as project writer for the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site Discovery Days Festival, as part of the Writing Ambitions Derbyshire Commissions Project.
How it works
Please book your session and then email the following information to lovelitderbyshire@hotmail.com by 17th May.
There are two options for the sessions:
Option 1
Talking about starting to write, writing courses and careers, and publishing in general – this is ideal if you are a complete beginner, or if you’re not not currently working on anything but want to get back into writing.
For this, please submit the following:
Any specific questions you have about writing and publishing in Emma’s subject areas, up to maximum of 5 questions.
A short biography of your writing experience so far (if any), one page maximum.
Option 2
Talking about your own writing – this is for people who are currently working on, or have finished, a novel, and are wondering about what do do next.
For this, please submit the following:
The opening chapter or first 1000 words of your children’s or YA novel, whichever is shorter.
The synopsis or outline, 2 pages maximum.
A short biography of your writing experience so far, one page maximum.
Any specific questions you have about your piece of writing, up to five questions.
Please note:
Everything must be double-spaced in a clear, 12-point font such as Times New Roman, Helvetica, Cambria or Arial.
Please make sure your name is on your submission somewhere.
Please format everything as Word documents or PDFs.
For Zoom sessions: Lovelit will send you a link to your meeting via email a few days before your session – all you need to do is click on the link when it is time for the session to start, and follow the steps on screen.
