About this event

About
Harness the power of the digital world to create new and exciting poems at Writing poetry in the digital age with Sophie-Louise Hyde.

This workshop will focus on a range of interesting digital techniques that you can deploy in your writing for the purpose of producing new and original poetry and prose that is unique in its presentation and form.

You will be introduced to a range of innovative methods that follow on from the Found and Verbatim Poetry workshop that took place at Nottingham Writers’ Studio back in February.

We’ll look at some key examples that deploy digital techniques, including social media (Instagram and Twitter) poetry, creative works presented as pie-charts or scatter-graphs, and some computer-generated works (e.g. Digital Dadaism).

Sophie will highlight the difference between these techniques and more traditional Found and Verbatim techniques before demonstrating how these digital methods take what we know of traditional Found and Verbatim (focused on the already-published or already-experienced) and turn it on its head to create work that is both intelligent and unlike writing as we currently know it.

You will...
Have a clear understanding of a range of digital techniques and know how to apply these to your work for the purpose of crafting unique and original poetry and prose;
Have been introduced to, read and examined some key examples of writing that deploys digital techniques, including social media poetry, works that present themselves as pie-charts and/or scatter-graphs, and some computer-generated work.
Have a clear understanding of the similarities and differences between these digital techniques and earlier, more traditional Found and Verbatim methods;
Have developed your own poem that deploys one or more of the digital techniques taught within the session;
Have received feedback from both the workshop leader and fellow participants within the session and developed your confidence and ability with regards to delivering critique to their peers within this writing workshop
