About this event

Crosswords is a fab little spoken word open mic night that takes place in the caves underneath the Malt Cross Pub on St James’ Street. There are plenty of open mic slots and a featured poet every month! In March, our featured performer is the fantastic poet and performer, Ash Dickinson!

Ash Dickinson is a multiple slam champion (including Edinburgh, Cheltenham and BBC Radio). He’s performed in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Jordan, Germany and the Czech Republic. He has headlined many shows and festivals throughout the UK, been widely published in newspapers, magazines and anthologies and is in great demand to run poetry workshops. His first collection, 'Slinky Espadrilles' was the first title published by Burning Eye Books. His follow-up, 'Strange Keys', was released by the same publisher in April 2016.

"Surreal, hilarious social commentary and wicked wordplay.... a master of stand-up poetry - Apples and Snakes

Arrive at Crosswords from 7:30pm on the night to book your short open mic slot. We like poetry, prose, storytelling, a cappella singing, and monologues! Or you can just come along to listen – everyone's welcome! Entry is £2 per person and refreshments are available.

NB: there are over forty steps down to the caves, some of which are uneven and steep.
