About this event

This series of workshops will introduce some key issues in travel writing: we’ll look at some examples, and do practical writing exercises based on your experiences of travel – real or imagined.

In this workshop, we’ll talk about the range of travel writing, your experience of reading it, and your opinions. We’ll look at some contrasting examples, and then start writing – from experience and imagination.

The second workshop will build on the first by looking at how we can make travel writing feel authentic and believable, through a range of interesting techniques. And we’ll do some detective work…

Travel is a theme in a lot of writing, not just travel writing. In this workshop we’ll look at travel poetry, and how description of travel might be used in other pieces of writing.

After a couple of weeks to do some thinking and writing, this session will be a chance to hear what everyone has been writing, to share your work and receive useful comments and advice. I’m already looking forward to it.
Dates of workshops: Sep 5, Sep 12, Sep 19, (one week break), Oct 3.
