About this event

Christmas and ghost stories go perfectly hand-in-hand, a literary tradition made famous by the festive fireside storytelling of Charles Dickens, M.R. James and many more. The ghost story remains an enduringly popular form of writing to this day, and this evening workshop aims to give participants all the tools to deliver truly chilling supernatural tales. Taking in key elements such as building atmosphere and tension, pacing, the 'reveal', exploring mystery, characterisation and much more, this session aims to give you both the insight and inspiration to create your own tales of – to quote M.R James himself – 'pleasing terror'.

Suitable for people with some experience of writing in the field, or those wanting to further explore this exciting and popular field further, the course will include discussion, talks and practical exercises to fire your imaginations too!
