About Sara

Sara Blair Manning was appointed as CEO of the Nottingham Castle Trust this year, responsible for leading the delivery of the £30 million castle regeneration until its re-opening in 2021. Her focus is making Nottingham Castle into a world-class site for thousands of visitors every day. The site will include exciting and engaging interactive attractions, including the reframing and illumination of legends of Robin Hood, in addition to explaining the role of Nottingham in the 17th Century Civil War. The ambition for the project is to become one of the country’s most visited historical sites outside London.

Sara is a Creative Arts alumna from Nottingham Trent University, and she has worked in the arts and heritage sectors for over twenty years, working with organisations including Arts Council England and the Museum Association. Previously, Sara was a general manager of National Trust properties in both South Nottinghamshire and North Lincolnshire, where she managed a number of sites including the Workhouse at Southwell which underwent a £1.2 million transformation to improve visitor experience under her leadership. Sara has also been the Chief Executive at Clare Cottage, birthplace and home of Victorian poet John Clare, where she was focused on raising the profile of the venue.

Her keynote address at our Heritage Learning Symposium is titled Constantly Curious: Learning through Questions, Creativity and Castles’.
