Join us at the Nottingham Playhouse for a reading of Anastasiia Kosodii’s ‘Timetraveller’s Guide to Dobas’ in support of our friends at Lviv and Odesa UNESCO City of Literature in Ukraine.

Nottingham has been given the opportunity to host Anastasiia Kosodii’s ‘Timetraveller’s Guide to Donbas’ in a scratch reading at the Nottingham Playhouse’s Neville Studio on Saturday the 19th of March at 7:30pm. Anastasiia herself will also be joining us for an online Q&A after the performance.

Anastasiia Kosodii is a Kyiv-based playwright and director, whose plays are performed across Ukraine and Europe. Anastasiia regularly works with NGOs in Eastern Ukraine, at the front line of the war between Ukraine and Russia. ‘Timetraveller’s Guide to Donbas’, was written and performed between 2017 and 2018, prior to the invasion of Ukraine, and its content has become ever more topical due to these troubling times.

The conflict between Ukraine and Russia began in 2014, between the Ukrainian government and the Russia-based separatist states of Donetsk and Luhansk, collectively the region of Donbas. The conflict began after the annexation of Crimea by Russia. Then in 2014 and 2015 respectively, countries signed the Minsk agreements for a ceasefire. In 2022, Putin backed separatist claims to the Donbas region.

‘Timetraveller’s guide to Donbas’ can be summarised in a few lines:

‘2036, Ukraine.

The inventor of the time machine and Time Traveller are leaving Zaporizhia for Luhansk in 2013.

They want to know why the war between Russia and Ukraine began.’

This performance will be fundraising for Save Lives in Ukraine: Come Back Alive, through the purchased tickets and further charitable donations the audience are invited to make. The money raised by this performance will help to aid refugees and all uprooted people at this time. Nottingham UNESCO City of Literature reiterates UNESCO’s statement of concern regarding the violence and military operations occurring in Ukraine at this current time. We stand in solidarity with our friends and colleagues at Lvivand Odesa UNESCO City of Literature.

The reading of Anastasiia Kosodii’s ‘Time Traveller’s Guide to Donbas’ will be taking place at the Neville Studios at the Nottingham Playhouse on Saturday the 19th of March, from 7.30pm. More information and tickets can be found on the Nottingham Playhouse website.
