Show Us Your Writer’s Workplace: Open Call 2020

Mon 30 Mar, 2020

Writers! You've probably seen a lot of your writing workplace recently, so here's a call on how to put it to good use...

The lovely folks at Ulyanovsk UNESCO City of Literature have just announced a fun new open call for applications for their project "A City as a Writer's Workplace". They’re asking you to tell them all about the place where you work on your writing. Whether you’re an author, a poet, a playwright, a copywriter or any other kind of writing, they’d like to hear from you!

The team will be collecting photos from writers from across the world, and building up a picture of the places that inspire, sooth and motivate us to get writing! After all, we all write somewhere different: at a desk, in the bath, or in the garden.

The project will culminate in an international online exhibition with photos of the workplaces of authors from the UNESCO literary cities. The online exhibition will be available on the Ulyanovsk City of Literature website.

Writers from the UNESCO Cities of Literature who want to take part in the project are invited to send a photo and a short paragraph about their favourite place to write. The photos can be of any place, and you don’t need to do a selfie, just send a photo of your space.

To participate in this call, please send the following to by 15th April 2020:

  • A photograph of your favourite place to write. All photographs must be at least 1280×1024 and must be labelled with information on where the photo was taken
  • A short paragraph explaining who you are, where you are from, and why this is your favourite place to write.

Everyone who gets involved in the project will receive a link to the online exhibition via e-mail, and it’s a great excuse to take a tour around the writing desks of authors and creators from across the globe!
