Nottingham UNESCO City of Literature understands the financial pressures the City Council is under, as it recovers from the ravages of Covid and long-term cuts to the central government settlement We are also proud of the commitment the Council has made to building a modern, children-focused central library that is fit for the twenty-first century, and the great steps the Council have made over the years to address the low literacy levels we see across the city.
We are keen to engage with the consultation and state the case for optimal local library provision, while working constructively with the Council, continuing to demonstrate how literature and literacy can be significant drivers of change and self-improvement for an individual, and the wider community.
