To celebrate the start of a summer of Big City Reads, Nottingham City Transport will also be placing books on seats for commuters to enjoy on selected lines.

Running until 11th August, this year’s initiative will see 2,000 free books distributed across the city, aiming to make literature more accessible to young people, especially those who may not have easy access to books of their own.

The free books will be available in creative spaces around the city, local cafes, and libraries. Additionally, books will be distributed directly to young people through schools, colleges, and local organisations.

Now in its third year, Big City Reads features four compelling Young Adult titles, carefully selected by Nottingham City of Literature’s young ambassadors and Youth Advisory Board to ensure they resonate with young audiences, addressing themes of acceptance, inclusion, and identity.

Hannah Trevarthen, Director of Nottingham City of Literature commented:

“Our mission with Big City Reads is to ignite a passion for reading among Nottingham’s youth. By offering these inspiring stories, we hope to open up new worlds for young people and instil a lifelong love of literature.”
