Announcing the launch of ‘Uncertain Truths’. The new anthology of fiction, poetry and memoir inspired by the rumour and speculation of an uncertain world from NTU’s 2021 Creative Writing MA students.

You’re invited to the launch of Uncertain Truths, a new anthology compiled by students from the 2021 Creative Writing MA at Nottingham Trent University, on November 3rd at Antenna in Nottingham.

Bringing together the work of MA students with other invited guest writers with Nottingham connections, the compendium of curiosities also includes the well-known crime writer John Harvey, Alison Moore, Lynda Clark, Megan Taylor, and Jo Dixon.

The students have been involved in putting together the collection of fiction, poems, and memoir since February, and have also undertaken the design and production of the book. Much of the work has been done whilst in lockdown.

Uncertain Truths is inspired by the theme of rumours and by living in an uncertain world. In this collection mysterious beasts take their place alongside ghosts; a hand with a life of its own; strange fish and fishy tales. Fantastic and fanciful narratives come together with darker work, exploring painful truths of the human condition.

Jenny Swann, poet and trustee for nottingham Unesco City of Literature, writes in the foreword:

‘One of the admirable qualities of Uncertain Truths is that it avoids the monotony of tone that can sometimes afflict, and spoil, anthologies. Rather, there are plenty of changes of gear, scene, and direction – one minute, the reader is enjoying a laugh about a post-Jackie-Weaver-style council meeting, the next, the mood and locus of a story or poem could not be more different.’

Take a step into the uncertain.

Uncertain Truths will be launched on 3rd November at Antenna in Nottingham. To book a place on the launch and to pre order a copy of the anthology visit the website and follow twitter Uncertain Truths @UncertainNTU.
