"But I Know This City!" - Call For Participants

Your chance to be part of a fantastic collaborative, multi-venue live performance of an avant-garde classic:

But I Know This City! Back in 2015 Nottingham staged a community reading of one of Britain's most important experiment post-war novels; B.S. Johnson's The Unfortunates. This 'book in a box' features 27 chapters that, other than First and Last, can be read in any order.

It is set in an unnamed city (with its opening lines as the narrator arrives off of the train of 'But I Know This City!' clearly being Nottingham). The event featured 50 readers (including Jonathan Coe) over 25 locations reading chapters of the novel (between 1-10 minutes in length) to audience members who travelled across the city armed with a map; and was a huge success (see the Spectator review here)

This year sees the fiftieth anniversary of the novel and to mark Nottingham's connection to this wonderful text Excavate and The University of Nottingham are producing the event once again for the Being Human festival. And we are looking for readers.

So if you are free on Saturday November 23rd and are interested in getting involved then please contact andy@excavate.org.uk putting But I Know This City! in the title.
