About Khaya

I'm Khaya, a 22 year old creative from Nottingham. Communication is at the heart of everything I do. I love words; writing them, talking or singing them. I am the creator of annual magazine and creative empowerment platform, Femme Fatale Gals. There, I am able to share all of my thoughts and musings on the world as a young black girl.

I am absolutely thrilled to be the youngest member on the board. My goal is to contribute to a better world and shine a light on marginalised voices and those that don’t often get a seat at the table.

Writing has always been such escapism for me. I’ve read and wrote stories for as long as I can remember. I’d create full stories in notebooks when I was little and completely immerse myself in the characters. I’ve always had a fascination with people; their lives, families, what motivates them. I was shy growing up and preferred to examine people from a far. Writing and reading definitely helped me in my formative years with self discovery, as I was able to find parts of myself within the stories of others.

My favourite books include To Kill a Mockingbird (Harper Lee) and The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I love the characters in these books and the journey’s that they go on. I am a stickler for self reflection. These books do that very well. Rupi Kaur is a writer whom continues to inspire me today; she writes so vulnerably and honestly.
