About Claire

Born and raised in Nottingham, grand-daughter of a Black miner and true advocate for equality. Claire is a passionate and committed individual who is delighted to join the team as the Trustee for Equality and Diversity.

She brings with her a wealth of personal and professional expertise. Director of Marketing for Nottingham Girls’ High School and part of the Girls’ Day School Trust’s steering group for Diversity, Claire is an expert in driving measurable change. Author of the anti-racism blog, “” and accompanying bookstagram account, Claire is a firm believer in self-education, representation and making a difference.

Reading has always been a huge part of my life. I read for pleasure, escapism, entertainment and self-education. Through reading I’ve lived a million lives and learnt so much.

Most recently, I’m focusing my attention of writers of colour, to ensure they’re represented and celebrated in a world that hasn’t always been equal or equitable. The literary community is one of mutual support and empowerment, and I’m proud to be part of it, doing my bit to help inspire the world around me.

It would be impossible to choose a favourite book or author, but my most memorable reads include Toni Morrison’s emotive stories of America in the 1800s, the fabulously varied characters of Bernadine Evaristo’s work and Brit Bennett’s atmospheric tales.
