As a UNESCO City of Literature, our mission is to build a better world with words. Our permanent designation as a UNESCO Creative City enables us to use the power of words to transform lives, create new opportunities and establish Nottingham as a leading destination for lovers of literature worldwide.

What we’re doing

In our vibrant literary city, there's a real hunger for live experiences. Talent is everywhere you look. From our base at Lakeside Arts, we’re here to feed that hunger and nurture that talent. From first-time writers to established novelists, we will:

  • Champion our literary city on a global stage
  • Inspire more Nottingham residents to read, write and enjoy words
  • Showcase future generations of writers
  • Support ambitious writers in achieving their goals

Nottingham UNESCO City of Literature has helped countless young readers and writers. We’ve offered creative leadership and literature programmes, mentoring, workshops, as well as opportunities through yearly events and commissions to help build a better world with words.
